The Hollywood Reporter says Hollywood's major studios have joined in the media buying frenzy over the much-anticipated Friends finale Thursday by advertising their big-budget summer films during the sitcom's finale at an average of $2 million for a 30-second spot. The finale is expect to draw an estimated 40 to 50 million viewers.

Universal said it will be airing a spot for Van Helsing, in theaters tomorrow, while Fox said it will be advertising The Day After Tomorrow, due in theaters May 28.

Sony will be featuring a 60-second ad for Spider-Man 2, due to be released June 30.

Paramount will air a 30-second spot for The Stepford Wives, opening June 11, during the Friends highlight program that will air before the final episode.

DreamWorks and Disney said they will be advertising during the finale, but declined to name the films that would be featured. Warner Brothers also will be running an ad during the hour.

Hewlett-Packard will be airing a spot showing DreamWorks animators using HP technology to create Shrek and his Donkey companion for Shrek 2. Because of HP's ad, DreamWorks is unlikely to run an ad for the film, which opens May 19.
