Alien Quadrilogy - Vicco - 01-29-2003

Cita:Alien Quadrilogy Details?
A reliable Canadian DVD retailer posts some possible details on the nine-disc set.

February 25, 2003 - We always get emails from users in the US asking for a good source of DVDs from Canada, such as the Smallville Pilot or the three-disc Brotherhood of the Wolf. Well, I've always used DV-Depot, and although they are small, they have always been very reliable.

Today, Christian of the Depot made a post on their customer service boards that spilled the beans on the upcoming nine-disc Alien Quadrilogy set. Now, this is not confirmed until Fox officially announces it, but these may be the possible details on the set:

"Alien: will include 14 deleted scenes for a total of 15
more minutes of the movie.

Aliens: will allow viewers to choose between the Theatrical version, which has never been available on DVD before, and the Cameron, Director's cut

Alien 3: will include David Fincher's 2 hr. 50 min original version of the movie, which has never been released.

Alien Resurrection: will feature an alternate opening and ending (crash on Earth).

And for the 9th bonus disc, which will include over 3 hours of material:

Alien Legacy - Was a free mail-in offer
Alien Evolution - BBC Documentary
Darkhorse Alien Comics
Darkhorse Alien vs. Predator
Complete Laser Disc features - so can throw away laser discs and have everything imaginable in this boxset

- Erubiel - 02-25-2003

Cita:Alien Update
Some things were just too good to be true...

February 27, 2003 - When we reported on Canadian e-tailer DV-Depot posting possible Alien Quadrilogy specs, we said they weren't official until Fox said so, and today we learned that most, but not all, of what DV-Depot posted was incorrect.

We cannot say exactly what the retailer got right because the set is still in production and releasing such info could cause big trouble for certain elements of it. Parts of the set are still under negotiation and having the information out there could endanger those negotiations and the set itself.

As usual, we'll keep you posted as more details emerge on the Alien Quadrilogy nine-disc set.

"Get a box of 'Alien' films on DVD
By Mike Snider, USA TODAY
The Alien invasion will go beyond theaters when a monstrous nine-disc Alien Quadrilogy box set arrives Dec. 2.
Over the weekend, Alien returned to theaters on 347 screens, bringing in a modest $1.04 million. The re-release was designed to draw attention to next month's DVD release of the original movie that made Sigourney Weaver a star in 1979, plus its three sequels.

The $99.98 set includes versions of the four Alien films not yet seen on home video:

•Alien can be watched in the original version or the new director's cut now playing in theaters.

• The 1986 sequel, Aliens, is available on DVD for the first time, with director James Cameron's special edition as well.

• Alien 3 (1992) has more than 30 minutes of new footage.

•Alien Resurrection (1997) has alternate opening and ending scenes.

Each movie also has its own accompanying disc of extras, and the ninth disc has a new interview with Alien director Ridley Scott. Scott and Weaver, who starred in all four films, also take part in a new commentary on the film.

One creature feature sure to pique fan interest: A multi-angle study of the "chest-buster scene," in which a hatched alien emerges from the stomach of Kane (John Hurt).

"Some of the background anecdotes and information about the shoot and setup — particularly (actress) Veronica Cartwright's reflection on the shock of getting soaked in jets of blood — are the type of thing that really sets DVD apart as an entertainment format," says Peter Staddon, senior vice president of marketing for Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment.

In total, the Alien Quadrilogy set has about 45 hours of previously unseen material. On Jan. 6, the films will be available individually on DVD for $26.98 each."

I hear specs are coming at around noon.

- Homero - 11-03-2003
